"What an interesting project. To be honest, it had never occurred to me to expect any recognition except for the thanks I received from the Marines and sailors I served with. A number of them told me that I had saved their life and that was all and more than I needed. I tried to do the best job I could and I have a feeling that I made a difference. When I left HMM-165, the crew chiefs invited me to their club for a few beers. One of the guys pushed a set of combat aircrew wings (CAW) across the table and said, 'the guys reckon you rate these.' I still have them, in fact they're my most prized possession."
